Abstract
My article, "The Shooting of a Caregiver," was published by The Good Men Project. A reflection on the shooting of Charles Kinsey, a black behavioral therapist, on the North Miami street where he was attempting to help an autistic and intellectually disabled resident of the group home where he works, the piece differs from the commentary that immediately followed the shooting by highlighting Kinsey’s role as a caregiver (therapist, father, and community organizer). I argue that “we all live in, and co-create, a society where disability, and the relationships of care that it fosters, are hidden from view.”
