How much does that weigh? Levinas and the Possibility of Human Rights

Jill Stauffer, Haverford College

Abstract

In the paper I talk about an inconsistency within liberalism between its goals and its means, contrast the subject described by Emmanuel Levinas with that given to us by John Rawls, discuss what is really meant by infinite responsibility, compare how justice weighs on different kinds of subjects, and relate that to problems of international justice. --author-supplied description
